Common Skin Conditions: When Should You Visit a Dermatologist?

Skin is the largest organ of the body that veils all the other organs. It acts as a protective covering to our internal body parts, bones and muscles. But even a protector needs protection sometimes. While it covers all the other body parts, our skin becomes the most exposed organ of our body. This exposure makes it prone to certain infections and skin conditions and we mostly tend to ignore them believing them to be normal. But, even the smallest of bumps on the skin can pose a threat to your health.

Although not every skin condition needs professional guidance. For instance, a few small pimples or acne occurring during your adolescence or getting cold sores once in a blue moon, like in a year or two is normal. Such conditions arise due to hormonal changes and may disappear on their own or with some home remedies or over the counter treatments. But what if the condition persists for long periods? What if the home remedies and over the counter treatments do not work? What if the condition exasperates? Well, this is where you need to take the condition seriously and book your appointment with a dermatologist at the earliest.

Below are some skin conditions that we think of as very normal, but which actually require your attention. Such conditions require medical care and expert guidance to be treated, otherwise they may lead to serious health problems.

Common Skin Problems You Can Not Avoid

Acne

Most of us are faced with acne outbreaks while we are at puberty. And these outbreaks sometimes disappear before we know it. But for some people, these can become a traumatizing situation because no matter whatever they do, the stubborn acne won’t go. If you can relate to this, its time you get concerned about those acne.

Acne that are long persisting might be an indication of other severe conditions such as rosacea, which are rather permanent and incurable. Only a dermatologist can determine the existence of such condition with the proper diagnosis. So, if your acne doesn’t seem like just an occasional occurrence, consider paying a visit to your dermatologist.

Cold Sores

Cold Sores which are also known as fever blisters or oral herpes are caused due to infections in mouth, gums or lips. These sores are generally rare and cure on their own. But if these sores seem to be forming every one or two months and persist for long periods, there might be some other underlying condition which needs a diagnosis and you might want to see your dermatologist.

Skin Rash

We often get a red, itchy rash on the skin and we simply ignore it thinking it to be a normal insect bite or some allergic reaction. But sometimes these rashes may be another skin condition known as hives which are caused due to an allergic reaction. If this condition is not taken care of, it can take the form of anaphylaxis which affects the whole body. So, if you find any red, raised, itchy rash on any part of your body, get down to your dermatologist at the earliest.

Sweating

Sweat is a way of our skin to release excess water and oil from the skin. While sweating is good as it helps in the clearance of skin impurities and makes our skin glowing, excessive sweating can be a matter of concern. It can be a sign of some underlying medical condition or might even be due to some medications or supplements. Whatever be the case, it’s a dermatologist’s opinion that you must seek.

Warts

Warts are usually benign growths that appear on the skin due to infection or simply rubbing of the skin against skin or clothes. However, if you are getting warts more often and they are painful or they form in clusters, you must seek a dermatologist’s opinion and get them removed. You may also want to get them diagnosed to be sure of any other underlying skin conditions.

These are some of the skin conditions that we always consider unimportant to be treated. But, the skin is an important part of the body. It characterizes your beauty. And more than that, your skin says a lot about your health. So, do take good care of your skin and never miss to see your dermatologist if you encounter any skin condition, even if it seems normal.
